1. Who we are

Calm Without Screens is an independent editorial website at calmwithoutscreens.com. The site is run by one person and focuses on honest product recommendations for screen-free evenings. For data-related questions, please use the contact page.

2. What data we collect

Data you provide voluntarily

We may collect personal information that you choose to submit when you:

• Subscribe to the email newsletter via the Brevo-powered sign-up form (email address, and optionally your first name)
• Submit the contact form (name, email address, and the content of your message)

This data is used only to respond to you or send you content you requested. It is never shared with third parties for marketing purposes, and it is never sold.

Data collected automatically

When you browse the site, certain information is collected automatically by the tools described below. No personally identifiable information is actively collected by us.

3. Google Analytics 4

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — Measurement ID G-C0MFGSFFY2 — to understand how visitors use the site in aggregate. Examples of what GA4 tracks: which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, what country they are in (not city), what device and browser they use, and what the referring source was.

Consent-gated: GA4 only loads on this site if you click "Accept" on the cookie consent banner. If you click "Decline", no Google Analytics scripts are loaded and no tracking data is sent to Google. Your preference is stored locally in your browser (via localStorage) so the banner does not reappear.

Anonymised IP: GA4 is configured with anonymize_ip: true. This means your IP address is truncated before it is processed by Google — the last octet of your IP is zeroed so the full address is never stored.

Google's own privacy policy applies to data processed by Google Analytics. You can read it at policies.google.com/privacy. You can also opt out globally using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Amazon affiliate cookies

This site participates in the Amazon Associates Programme. When you click a product link on this site that leads to Amazon, Amazon may set a tracking cookie on your device. This cookie allows Amazon to attribute the referral to this site and pay a commission if you make a qualifying purchase.

This cookie is set by Amazon on their domain, not by us. The data collected by this cookie is governed by Amazon's Privacy Notice. The cookie typically lasts 24 hours from the time you click a link.

Clicking affiliate links and declining our cookie consent banner are independent choices: declining our analytics consent does not prevent Amazon from setting their own cookies when you navigate to amazon.com or amazon.co.uk.

5. Email newsletter

If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address (and optionally your first name) is stored with Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), our email service provider. Brevo's privacy policy governs how they store and process your data. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of any newsletter email, or by contacting us directly.

6. Cookies summary

• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4): Only loaded with your consent. Used to understand site usage in aggregate. Can be declined via the cookie banner.
• Amazon affiliate cookies: Set by Amazon on amazon.com / amazon.co.uk when you click a product link. Not set by this site.
• Consent preference (localStorage): A key called cookieConsent is stored in your browser's localStorage to remember whether you accepted or declined. This is not a cookie — it is a local browser entry that is not transmitted to any server.

You can manage or delete cookies via your browser settings. Note that clearing localStorage will cause the cookie banner to reappear on your next visit.

7. Data sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. The only third parties who receive data in connection with this site are:

• Google — via Google Analytics (only if you consent)
• Amazon — via affiliate link clicks (only when you click a product link)
• Brevo — if you subscribe to the newsletter

8. Your rights

9. Data retention

Email subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Contact form data is retained for a reasonable period to allow us to respond to your message. GA4 data is retained according to Google's default retention settings (which you can opt out of at any time).

10. Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information via this site, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the site after a revised policy is posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
